34 Creative ways to use Countdown Timers in your Email Marketing

Countdown Hero (affiliate link) is a tool that allows you to add highly visual countdown timers to your sales pages and emails. It's currently available for just $67! πŸŽ‰β€‹

Countdown timers can help people move forward in deciding to purchase/work with you, so you can help them get them the results they want. They function as visual reminders for your subscribers of what's going on in your world, and, depending on the timer, they allow your customers/clients to plan and budget ahead.

34 creative ways to use Countdown Timers in your Email Marketing

A quick intro: there are basically 2 kinds of countdown timers: countdown timers where the deadline is the same for everyone (in the case of a live launch for example), and countdown timers where the deadline is unique to each individual subscriber (in case of an evergreen sales funnel for example). I'm listing ideas for both below.

β€‹πŸ’‘ Tip: ideally you'd be matching up the countdown timers in your emails with countdown timers on your sales pages. Using software like Countdown Hero (affiliate link) makes this really easy!

Creative Ideas for Unique Countdown Timers for Individual Subscribers:

1. Renewal reminders: use a countdown timer to remind subscribers when it's time to renew a subscription or service.

2. Credit to your Business reminder: if you're selling 'credit' to your business (see this course by Lizzy Goddard on how to do that, it's only $9 - affiliate link), you can remind them of the expiration date with a countdown timer in your emails.

3. Cart abandonment emails: use a countdown timer to remind people of how much time is left to purchase, or how long you're keeping their items in their cart.

4. Free trials ending: use a countdown timer to remind subscribers that their free trial is ending soon and to encourage them to upgrade or continue using the product or service.

5. Birthday promotions: use a countdown timer to countdown to a subscriber's birthday, offering them a special promotion or discount to celebrate.

6. Exclusive deals: use a countdown timer to promote exclusive deals to subscribers, showing them how much time they have left to take advantage of the offer.

7. One-time Offers: use a countdown timer to encourage people to take advantage of a one-time offer after they purchased your main product.

8. Adding extra items to an order: allow people to add extra items to their order and use a countdown timer to show them how long they still have to add these extra items before you ship them.

9. Offer a Tripwire with an offer for sale after someone opts in for your freebie. Use a countdown timer to show how long people have left before the special offer expires.

Creative Ideas for Countdown Timers that have the same deadline for everyone:

10. Remind people of important dates, eg as a tax professional you can remind people to submit their taxes before a specific date.

11. Encourage speaker signups for your Summit or contributor signups for your Bundle before a specific deadline.

12. Countdown to when your new YouTube video goes live.

13. Countdown to when your new Podcast episode airs.

14. Service price change: countdown to when your services go up in price.

15. Start-of-sale and end-of-sale: create excitement and anticipation by counting down to a launch. And then of course you can count down to the moment doors are closing again as well.

16. Pre-order campaigns: use a countdown timer to build excitement and encourage pre-orders for a highly anticipated product or service.

17. Seasonal promotions: use a countdown timer to countdown to a holiday, seasonal sale, or special event.

18. Early bird specials: use a countdown timer to encourage subscribers to take advantage of an early bird promotion before it ends.

19. Limited edition products: use a countdown timer to count down to the end of a limited edition product, encouraging subscribers to act quickly before it's no longer available.

20. Event reminders: use a countdown timer to remind subscribers of an upcoming Zoom call, or Live Event.

21. Product restocks: use a countdown timer to count down to when a popular or highly requested product will be back in stock.

22. Limited-time upgrades: use a countdown timer to show subscribers how long they have to upgrade to a premium or VIP version of a product or service at a discounted price.

23. Flash giveaways: use a countdown timer to promote flash giveaways, showing subscribers how much time they have left to enter.

24. Encouraging people to sign up for a webinar before a specific date, and then counting down to the webinar start time.

25. Upcoming feature releases: use a countdown timer to count down to an upcoming lesson release of (lesson in) your course, a feature release or a software update, building excitement and anticipation.

26. Encourage buyers to get their Summit ticket or Bundle purchase before the deadline expires.

27. Use countdown timers for your Online Summit, to show exactly how long specific content can still be viewed. Often people set this to 24 hrs and then the content is gone, unless people upgrade to a VIP package for example.

28. Surprises - send out surprise discount codes that are available for a limited amount of time, and use a countdown timer to show how long the discount is valid.

29. Offer free shipping for a limited time, and use a countdown timer to show how much time your subscribers have left to order.

30. Start a loyalty program and have people sign up before a specific date to get access to specific rewards.

31. Countdown to the opening of a new location of your business.

32. Expiring bonuses (for example each day of the launch they'd get one less bonus): use a countdown timer to encourage people to sign up as soon as possible to get the largest bonus package, then counting down to the second largest bonus package, etc.

33. Next-day delivery: use a countdown timer to display how long people have left to order if they want to receive their order the next day.

34. Expiring discount codes: use a countdown timer to remind subscribers when a discount code is expiring, encouraging them to use it before it's too late.
